It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
