The second-hand marketplace Members Express Displeasure Regarding Size Updates
Shoppers are voicing their frustration after an update resulted in products showing incorrect sizing.
The popular resale platform has altered its sizing categories for women's and children's garments failing to inform all shoppers about the modification.
Social Media Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show an altered size classification versus the original listing because of the remapping.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to examine their items and update the measurements by hand when needed, causing user dissatisfaction.
Sizing System Updates
Previously, the sizes had both one number and one letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement was formerly size 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Shopper Stories
One content creator, who produces content about larger sizing, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Required Changes
A different user, located in England, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she stated.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion when a surprising modification to the app has proved unpopular: previously, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
