Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was sentenced of plotting a military coup in the ninth month and handed more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he remained under house arrest pending appeals.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after "new facts" were revealed.

This encompassed seeking to disable his electronic bracelet and a summons to a public vigil that could facilitate a potential flight.

In a paperwork permitting the detention, the judge said intelligence from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the former leader's "intention to break the tracking monitor to ensure success in his escape.

Details of Guilty Verdict
