One 60-day voyage circling the Australian Coast was terminated days after the fatal incident of an older woman who was stranded by the ship on a isolated island.

Suzanne Rees had been trekking on the tropical location with shipmates from the vessel, but parted ways from the group for a pause. The vessel departed without her and came back later that day after the personnel became aware the lady was not present.

A major search operation found her person the following day.

Officials are investigating the incident, alongside police and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer announced that guests and crew on the ship were told that the continuation of the cruise had been called off due to the "sad loss and prior mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he added that passengers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to organize the return journeys of the travelers via chartered flights".

Authorities also released an revised communication, and said they had "provided a directive to the Master" preventing any additional guests from entering the vessel.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the ship in the Australian city upon its coming back.

The ship first departed Cairns on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the expedition at the moment of the senior passenger's death. The tropical location was the initial destination on the voyage.

"She was asked her to return, without accompaniment. Then the vessel sailed away, apparently without doing a headcount.

"During some point in that chain of events, or shortly after, mum died, alone."

Operator Response

Through an announcement, the Chief Executive affirmed that the operator was "cooperating fully with officials to assist their examination".

He said that the organization was "deeply sorry that this has transpired" and had provided its full support to the family.

The vessel accommodates up to 120 guests with 46 staff, according to corporate details. It was specifically designed to reach distant locations of the nation's shoreline and is fitted with "small boats" - minor craft used to transport travelers on day excursions.

Occurrences of this nature are uncommon, and passenger vessels have procedures to document which travelers are embarking or disembarking, according to travel authorities.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] onboard simply isn't an option," a specialist stated.

Cruise lines take these methods with great importance and have "advanced technology in place to avoid such incidents from taking place," the expert further stated.

"This seems to be most likely a stunning - and tragic - one-off."
