Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences growing in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the team enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter pledged a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Questers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can expect learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
