In a bizarre partnership that challenges conventional forecasts, Ubisoft has announced an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual Thanksgiving event runs from November 25 through December 22, offering complimentary additional story content for Shadows players.

Strange Adventure Revealed

According to the official announcement, "An unusual encounter leads heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a original adventure, where rumors of forbidden practices and fearsome metamorphoses echo through the shadows." The narrative presents a "unusually attired woman named Ada" who tasks the characters with venturing into the Crystalline Cavern—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her ally from a secret sect.

The questline concentrates on "bizarre trials and a monstrous adversary" and is available to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Locations and Transformations

The trailer features the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was previously where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The teaser ends with a dramatic scene showing a character, presumably the hostage, changing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Items and Additional Material

Players who accomplish the mission will obtain an exclusive katana alongside numerous objects secreted throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also contains in-store Attack on Titan item packs, offering:

• Titan-inspired attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Special arms
• Survey Corps vehicle

Third Free Story Update

This release also introduces the game's third complimentary story content, titled "The Enigma." This lighthearted adventure teams Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature abilities: Naoe debuts a performative variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-fatal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Enigma" also contains a fresh environmental puzzle that may finally shed light on some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

Earlier Japanese Animation Partnerships

This marks scarcely the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with famous anime properties. The series previously included a 2020 cross-promotional story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla unofficially included a quest that clearly referenced the famous series One-Punch Man.
